STEAMSHIP SERVICE
4 Day Transit Time

Sailing from the Port of Tacoma two times weekly, steamship service is the fastest ocean service to Anchorage, Alaska. This service accommodates freight moving in standard over the road van equipment, ocean containers, and flatbed trailers. See below for normal transit time information.

Delivery in Homer and Seward: Tuesdays & Thursdays

PAF Hours of Service: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

PAF Cut Off Times: To insure your freight makes the scheduled sailing, please have your shipments to PAF's Fife Facility as follows:

Mid Week Sailing - 12 Noon Wednesday*
Weekend Sailing - 12 Noon Friday*

* PAF will accept shipments after these cut times however request you contact Operations/Dispatch at (253) 926-3292 if your freight will be arriving late on a ship day. We will do everything we can to accommodate your late arriving freight.

Equipment

40' and 45' containers, flatbeds, dry vans, insulated and refrigerated vans. 28', 40', 45' and 48' highway trailers, flatbeds and vans. Special equipment also available including insulated trailers, lowboys, stretch flatbeds and refrigerated trailers.

Rates

Competitive rates with moderate penalties for over-width or over-length lading, heavy lift pieces and special equipment. It pays to check with PAF before you ship to insure no unanticipated costs result from your freight activating a dimensional penalty. BARGE SERVICE
Slower, More Economical Service

With proper advance planning, Barge service is available to Anchorage and Valdez, Alaska. This usually takes 8 to 10 days. While this service is slower than motor vessel, it may be a cost effective service alternative for you and your customer. In addition, weekly Barge service to Southeast Alaska, Juneau and Ketchikan moves every Thursday, with some summer schedules of twice per week. Transit time is 4 to 5 days and the only water service available to Southeast Alaska. There is also supplemental Ferry service to some points. The Yukon River is also serviced in the summer months by barge. 20', 40' and 53' containers and 20', 24' and 40' platforms are available for moving a variety of cargo to Alaska.

RAIL SERVICE

Rail Barge Service to Alaska is a viable service alternative if your cargo dimensions or quantity of cargo warrant this service. Pacific Alaska Freightways is one of the few Alaska Transportation Companies with our own rail siding. ROAD SERVICE

Another alternative to moving freight on water or by air is to move it over the road. Because the Steamship Service is 3 to 4 days to Anchorage and sails Wednesdays and Fridays, early in the week road departures may be a service alternative you need. More costly than water, based on day of departure is faster than steamship service. Pacific Alaska Freightways can meet your service requirement. AIR SERVICE

Some shipments must be expedited to meet your service demands. Pacific Alaska Freightways works with several air carriers to provide quality service at a competitive price. Many points in Alaska are served by air beyond Anchorage. During the winter months in Alaska, generally November through mid - May, many Alaska points are only accessible by air beyond Anchorage.
